Monarch chrysalises always remind me of the detail and care that God puts into even the tiniest parts of His creation.
This painting was a study for my larger series, "Life Cycle of a Monarch." I was inspired by the floral backgrounds that Kehinde Wiley paints in his portraits.
My Mom and I have raised caterpillars together since I was very young. Our relationship has grown and changed- our own particular metamorphosis. This painting is based on a photo I took of my Mom looking with such pride and joy at her growing caterpillars and chrysalises.
